ENROLLMENT OF CHILDREN IN TORAH SCHOOLS

$2M
annual budget
2,434
NUMBER OF CHILDREN REGISTERED IN 2024
The job of an enrollment officer is to visit the parents and children and first see what their needs are — what would be a good fit for the parents, and what would be right for the children — both in terms of ruchniyus and scholastically. They then provide information about the Torah education system, and do their utmost to convince the parents to give their children an education that will imbue them with Torah values. Sometimes, it takes many visits to enroll a single child. In addition, the enrollment officers actually take the parents and children to visit the schools, to see the difference for themselves. Even after completion of the registration process, the enrollment officer continues to accompany both children and parents until they are completely integrated into their new school system. They remain in touch with the family, as well as with the school, sometimes for years.

NUMBER OF GIRLS IN ATTENDANCE AT THE 40 MIDRASHOT IN 2024
The countrywide chain of Midrashot Shalhevet currently has 40 branches. These walk-in centers are located in shopping malls and other high-traffic areas where passerby often pop in and discover a warm and loving home. Here, the girls learn to take pride in their Jewish identity and bond with the eternal values of the Torah. Alongside the full schedule of Torah classes and lectures, there are a variety of fun activities such as trips to mekomos hakedoshim. Every few weeks they spend Shabbos in Yerushalayim or Bnai Brak in the homes of religious families. There, they experience Shabbos and begin to believe that this is the kind of home they can aspire to be part of themselves. The Midrasha staff members are available for the girls at all times to provide a listening ear and caring heart. Girls from all sectors of society, including soldiers and immigrants from other countries, find a quality, value-imbued social life at the Midrasha, within a framework of learning and growth. Many graduates of Midrashot Shalhevet have made a complete turnabout and are living lives of Torah and Mitzvos. The Midrashot staff is heavily involved in helping the girls find suitable mates so they can continue on the path toward full observance and eventually build Torah homes.

Evening Batei Medrash

TORAH LEARNING CENTERS

$4.5M
ANNUAL BUDGET FOR BATEI MEDRASH
8,500
NUMBER OF PEOPLE IN ATTENDANCE AT THE OVER 164 EVENING BATEI MEDRASH IN 2024
Men from all walks of Israeli society come to the Batei Medrash. They are welcomed just as they are. Experience has shown that simply learning Torah in the warm Beit Medrash atmosphere reveals to the learners a whole new world, previously unknown to them. They connect to it, and they keep coming. Learning in the Beit Medrash connects them to their Jewish heritage. It influences each one of them in terms of growth in emunah and hashkafa, and their families soon follow in their footsteps. Their shemiras hamitzvos is strengthened, and this has great influence on how they educate their children. A home where Shabbos and mesorah are cherished, is a home whose children will surely be sent to Torah schools. The thousands of yungeleit who learn with people in the Batei Medrash do this on a completely volunteer basis. Our expenses consist of transportation for the yungeleit from their homes to the Batei Medrash and back, salaries for the coordinators of the Batei Medrash, advertising, refreshments, and other maintenance costs. In addition, there are organized events which create camaraderie among Beit Medrash members and provide chizuk for families on their way to Torah observance.

Project Lev HaKotel

OUTREACH AT THE KOSEL HAMA'RAVI

$240,000
annual budget
APPROXIMATELY 19,000 PEOPLE GAVE THEIR CELL NUMBERS TO LEV HAKOTEL REPRESENTATIVES LAST YEAR AND MORE THAN 5,000 ARE NOW IN SHIURIM OR OTHER LEV L’ACHIM PROGRAMS.
The Lev HaKotel personnel make initial contact, and are careful not to disturb the as-yet secular visitor during his private moment of introspection. But with just a few well-chosen words, with a pitch that takes but a few seconds, they convey the availability of further spiritual exploration. “Not now, not here, but when you get home. We have Torah classes and programs close to your home. Just give me your cell number and we’ll be in contact later”… Seizing upon the moment when the door to their hearts has opened just a bit, the Lev HaKotel staff steps in and makes the connection that results in thousands of people joining shiurim and Torah classes every year.

Assimilation Task Force

INTER-MARRIAGE & ASSIMILATION AND THE ANTI-MISSIONARY & CULT TASK FORCE

$240,000
ANNUAL BUDGET FOR INTER-MARRIAGE & ASSIMILATION AND THE ANTI-MISSIONARY & CULT TASK FORCE
The division receives new calls on a weekly basis. All information is kept completely confidential. The moment contact is initiated with a girl or woman in this type of situation, she is encouraged to return to the community and leave behind the mistakes that brought her to such depths. Over the course of the work, we provide whatever is needed, including the ongoing connection with a professional social worker. Our staff is in touch with the women constantly and field their calls 24 hours a da y. Some cases require greater effort and investment, and the Lev L’Achim staff is there dealing with the woman, her parents, and all other involved parties. These situations often involve young children who need to be placed in educational institutions, and often must be housed with foster families or in safe-houses, as their mother fights to pry herself out of the clutches of whoever ensnared her. Sometimes, this means relocating mother and children to secret places of refuge or even to new lives out of the country. At the same time, the division organizes preventative events and speeches, to increase awareness of the very real dan - gers that exist. At least once a year, presentations are made in schools about the dangers of assimilation.
